Getting CASTEP

Academic use

The CASTEP Developers' Group (CDG) and Cambridge Enterprise are excited to announce a cost-free worldwide source code license to CASTEP and NMR CASTEP for academic use. The CDG looks forward to welcoming a global community of CASTEP users and developers.

Licenses are offered on a "research group" basis and can be obtained at Licence requests are subject to a check of academic status and will be processed within 2 working days of the terms being accepted.

With the release of CASTEP 20.1 for academics, we are phasing out licence applications done by email. Existing licences for CASTEP 19.1 will remain valid until 4 years after the last date of signature and include access to major releases within the licence period. Outstanding licence requests done by email up to March 2021 will still be processed. However, be advised that there could be a delay of weeks in fully addressing the backlog. All users are encouraged to apply through the new web service linked above. We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.
